Athletics is an important part of my life, especially at Westwood. Ever since 6th grade when I was eligible to do Junior Varsity sports, I signed up for sports teams. I play tennis and run cross country and track. Sports is a major part in my life since it allows me to do something I love in a friendly competitive atmosphere. My favorite part of playing sports is being able to compete against other people, and of course the aspect of winning thrills me.

Athletics

Cross Country

Cross country is an endurance sport. It requires running long distances. In Junior varsity, which is 6th-8th grade, the distance that is required to run is 1.5 miles at the meets. In varsity, which is 9th-12th grade, the distance requirement is 3.2 miles or a 5K. I have been doing cross country since 6th grade. I ran Junior Varsity 6th-8th grade and Varsity 8th-10th.

I enjoy running cross country because it increases my endurance and stamina, and I enjoy running.

In my five years of running cross country, we have won one award. In my 9th grade year, the varsity boys team earned region runner-up.

Track and Field

Track and Field is a fun sport. I like it because there are many different events to do, and there is usually one that will suit you. In 9-10th grade, I ran the 3200 meters.

In my 9th grade year in varsity, my team won region champs, and state runner-up.

Tennis

Tennis is the sport that I have been playing the longest. Tennis is my favorite sport because it requires mental skill, hand-eye coordination, technique, and stamina. I like playing singles the best because you are the only person you depend on. My school does not have a junior varsity tennis team, so I joined the varsity tennis team in 8th grade, and I have been on the team since then. I also play USTA tennis during the summer, and sometimes compete in USTA tournaments.

My school tennis team and I won region champs in my 8th and 9th grade year. In USTA Tennis, my team was region winners in 14 and under beginner tennis category, in the summer of 2013.

Unfortunately we were moved up to AAA my 10th grade year and faced harder competition. So we did not obtain any team awards.
